STYLE ADVICE

DO:

  • Coordinate your outfits for a coherent look.  Start by putting together an outfit you really like and build coordinating outfits from there.
  • Think: textures, layers, and fabrics with movement!
  • Keep the location of your session in mind.  Try to pick your outfit(s) to fit the vibe of the location.
  • Dress for the weather.
  • Make sure you like how your outfit looks while standing, sitting, etc. Ultimately, wear what fits well and makes you feel good!
  • MATERNITY: The purpose is to show off that baby bump!  Very dark colors and very large/busy patterns often do not show your bump well.
  • Dresses photograph well! Flowy or clingy styles both work. You can find flowy dresses that are not meant for maternity that work well.

TRY TO AVOID:

  • matching exactly
  • fluorescent colors, writing, graphics, and logos
  • bold plaid and thin/tight stripes or patterns as they can appear strange to the camera
  • wearing athletic sneakers

COLOR SCHEMES

-Earth tones, jewel tones, and neutrals all photograph well. Off white/cream often photographs better than stark white as white can pull different tones making it look more blue, etc.
-If you need more inspiration for outfits, check out StyledByWi on Instagram. She has great color schemes and even some links to items (find them in her LTK Closet linked below).

"DAY OF" HELPFUL TIPS

  • Plan plenty of time into your day to get you/your family ready for your photo session.  Feeling happy and relaxed will make for better photos!
  • Make sure everyone is fed. Full stomachs typically make everyone happier!
  • Do not wear glasses that tint in the sun.  If you have another pair of glasses, wear those for your session or wear frames without lenses to avoid glare.
  • Arrive early! I have sessions booked back-to-back and cannot make up for lost time. Also, if you have little ones, consider changing them into their photoshoot outfit when you arrive.
  • Have fun with your loved ones!  The most memorable images are often the ones in which you are interacting with each other.  That’s when the most natural expressions and smiles occur.
